How does the Ontario surtax work?
The Ontario surtax is an additional tax on your provincial tax. You pay 20% on provincial tax over $5,554, plus 36% on provincial tax over $7,108. This effectively increases rates for higher earners.
Is the Ontario Health Premium the same as OHIP?
The Ontario Health Premium helps fund healthcare but is separate from OHIP eligibility. Everyone with taxable income over $20,000 pays it through their tax return, up to a maximum of $900.
